學院以國家經濟建設和社會發展為導向,結合珠江三角洲經濟發展的實際需求,堅持“重基礎、寬口徑、應用型”的人才培養目標,英語專業教學分為四個方向:商務英語、英語翻譯、通用英語、外事旅游英語,采用“專業+模塊”的人才培養模式,培養學生既擁有扎實的英語聽、說、讀、寫、譯的能力,又具有相關行業職業的基本知識,成為能勝任商務管理、翻譯、文秘、英語教學、旅游管理、國際交流等工作需要的高素質、復合型、應用型英語人才。

English Major

The school of Foreign Languages, oriented towards the economic construction and social development of our nation, commits herself to the actual demands of the Pearl River Delta for its economic and cultural development, taking solid basis, wide caliber and applicable skill as talent-cultivating objectives. Current specialisms available to English majors comprise Business English, English Translation, General English, and Foreign Affairs and Tourism, and the training model of which is the major plus modules. Our students trained this way are not only strong in English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation but also in the necessary knowledge required by the relevant trades, which allows them to be competent in such international spheres as business management, translation, secretarial work, English teaching and tourism management.

英語系治學嚴謹,學風優良,十分注重教學質量,歷年來英語專業四級通過率比獨立學院平均高10個百分點;2012年2010級學生英語專業四級考試一次性通過率為52.60%,比全國獨立學院平均通過率(35.77%)高出16.83個百分點;比全國院校平均通過率(51.09%)高出1.51個百分點,英語專業四級累計通過率達到79.6%。

The English Department features in its rigorous scholarship, fine academic atmosphere and attachment of importance to teaching quality, which has been proved by its exciting rate of passing TEM 4 over the years. The year 2012, for example, saw the relative high one-time passing rate of TEM 4(52.60%)achieved by its sophisters, which was 16.83% and 1.51% respectively higher than the average rate of independent colleges and that of all the colleges and universities in our nation. The passing rate of TEM 4, what’s more, added up to 79.6%.

英語系注重學生實踐能力的培養,開設多種形式的實踐、實習課程,如晨讀、外語角,組織學生到大型企事業單位進行認知實習。將各種專業學科競賽融入實踐環節、積極建設并充分利用校外實習基地等,為培養學生的實際應用能力、開闊眼界提供平臺。

The English Department, aiming at the advancement of students’ practical ability, has been undertaking sorts of activities and courses in practice, such as morning reading and foreign language corners. In addition, students are organized to visit large enterprises and comprehend their practical operation. A platform for students to apply what has been learned and to broaden their horizons, so far, has been constructed by means of competitions of professional disciplines and off-campus training bases.
